EBOOK NEW (The End of Empire Attila the Hun and the Fall of Rome) ó Christopher Kelly It's almost beyond argument that the sudden appearance of the Huns in 4th century eastern Europe helped precipitate the fall of the Roman Empire The difficulty for any historian of the period is to tell the story of both Huns and Fall from the random scraps of literary and archaeological evidence that have survived anti

The End of Empire Attila the Hun and the Fall of Rome

The End of Empire Attila the Hun and the Fall of Rome characters ´ 5 Christopher Kelly è 5 Summary Free download Ò PDF, eBook or Kindle ePUB free è Christopher Kelly Attila the Hun godless barbarian and near mythical warrior king has become a byword for mindless ferocity His brutal attacks smashed through the frontiers of the Roman empire in a savage wave of death and destruction His reign of terror shattered an imperial world that had been securely unified by the conuests of Julius Caesar five centuries before This book goes in search of the real Attila the Hun For the first time it reveals t. Excellent I m not sure Kelly adds much to the story but he tells it well Kelly does bring you up to date as far as what recent archaeology has brought to light but it isn t much The Huns were not some far eastern yellow menace but beyond that there s not a lot to go on Kelly points out that the Huns as invaders were parasitic and adapted themselves to some extent to the peoples they conuered In other words Hun artifacts intermingled with Goth artifacts show little or no difference Oh there are a few pure Hun burial sites that have been found but it s a mistake to say that the Hun civilization was a fixed thing with clear boundaries When it comes to Attila again there s not much to go on Kelly builds his story primarily on the fragments of a history on Attila that was written by Priscus of Panium The reason that we only have fragments is due to a later Byzantine emperor s massive and goofy editorial project Priscus actually saw Attila and Kelly gives the Roman high marks for his objectivity Attila according to Priscus was a shrewd brave operator looking to extort what he could out of the Romans both East and West The Huns were brutal but when faced with a set piece battle against good troops their success was at best limited And after Attila s strange death by nosebleed after a night of drinking things uickly unraveled for the Huns The history here is all somewhat murky but this is where Kelly excels by filling in the gaps with an informed speculation that strikes me as reasonable and entertaining
