Blue Skies and Gunfire is a sweet book that was enjoyable to read if a little slow moving Josie is a budding artist sent away to her Aunt in the countryside to escape the war and there she falls in love twice Josie meets two brothers Jumbo a kind warm cheerful soul who lost a leg in a motorcycle accident and Chris a fighter pilot and a ladies man Josie at first thinks that Jumbo is the one but when she meets his brother her heart is torn and she must choose The story is set during World War 2 and mainly focuses on the RAF side of things which makes a change because most books set in this time are either about the Blitz or the Holocaust of course these are very interesting topics too and sad so it was nice to have something fresh and I learnt a little about being a pilot in WWII I felt that to criticise this book would be a bit cruel because it is a lovely book and I feel it wasn t made for reviews and critiue but I have to say that the actual love story in my opinion was a little bland Josie although lovely wasn t very relatable and she fell in love far too easily She always said how her mother was strong and taught her to be wary of boys and their ways and I felt she mustn t have taken any of that on board Maybe the author was trying to show how powerful love is However the history is fabulous I love history as a subject and those bits when the author spoke about the planes and the bombs and the worries that the people faced it was excellent
